HBeAg kit is used to quantitatively detect the content of hepatitis B virus e antigen in human serum or plasma in vitro.
HBeAg is not a structural protein of virus, nor is it involved in virus replication, but it can play an important role in the immune response after virus infection. First, as a target antigen for infected cells, HBe/cAg determinants can induce host immune responses on the surface of infected hepatocytes in synergy with human leukocyte antigen-I (HLA-1). Meanwhile, as an immunoregulatory factor, HBeAg can regulate the host's immune response, inhibit the cytotoxic activity of host T cells, and form immune tolerance to HBV infection.
In the acute phase of hepatitis B, if HBeAg remains positive for 3 months after the onset, it may be the earliest basis for the development of acute hepatitis B to chronic. A persistent positive HBeAg in chronic hepatitis indicates persistent HBV infection and is a sign of active hepatitis.
The viral envelope of an enveloped virus has different surface proteins from the rest of the virus which act as antigens. These antigens are recognized by antibody proteins that bind specifically to one of these surface proteins.
